Menlo Class of '64's 55th Reunion

Nearly a dozen members of the Menlo Class of 1964 gathered in the Menlo Park/Los Altos area over the weekend of 12 - 14 October, 2019 to celebrate the 55th anniversary of our graduation from Menlo.

Our celebration began with a wonderful pre-Homecoming Game "festival" organized and hosted by Menlo on the Douglass Lawn! Special thanks to Katherine Kelly and the Menlo Alumni staff for the incredible selection of foods, beverages and entertainment!

UNDER THE LIGHTS at Cartan Field (a FIRST for us!), Bruce Benton, Bill Jarrott, Jim Odriozola and John Zinke were joined by John Lawson, Kim McKellar and Kim's lovely lady, Anne Marie to watch the Menlo Knights defeat the Carlton High School Scots, 23 to 17!!  Unfortunately, NO photographs were taken to remember this event - in fact, as the evening grew increasingly chilly a few of us faint-hearted departed at the beginning of the 4th quarter when it appeared that the Knights had the game under control, and returned to Dinah's for a night cap in the warmth of Dinah's Poolside Restaurant.

On Saturday, we enjoyed a casual morning and afternoon of classmate arrivals and informal get-togethers in and around Dinah's.  Our "main event" was a lovely dinner in the heated patio of Pezella's Via Napoli Italian Restaurant, about 4 miles south of Dinah's on El Camino.

From here on, it'll just photographs of the event, courtesy of CreativeShot Photography (SPECIAL thanks to Mike Kenner for engaging the photographer!).

Most dinner attendees, with small group photos and individual photos to follow (unfortunately, Kim McKellar and Anne joined us after the photographer departed)

Scott Clinton

I'm sorry to share that, via an e-mail from his son, James, I've just learned that Scott passed away a couple of months ago. Classmates have written with remembrances of Scott, including Bill Phinizy who shared this photo of the "Backbay Chamberpot Terriers" jug band started by Robby Kreiger and Billy Wolff that also included Scott, Bill Phinzy and Jerry Dunn:
Mike Kenner commented: "Sorry to hear that....I did love the way he laughed!" May Scott rest in eternal peace.

2017 "Mini-Reunion"

Season's Greetings, Classmates (well, it IS almost Thanksgiving)!

'Thought you'd enjoy some photos from our "off-cycle" mini-reunion during Menlo's recent Homecoming Celebration (20-21 October 2017).  As expected, the turnout was light, but it was a terrific opportunity to welcome Jim Odriozola back to the class after his LONG absence, and to renew several other long-term relationships!

Here's a shot of a little of a little pre-game "B.S." session:

And, a little class camaraderie during the game (missing? Keoki Raymond who was otherwise obligated, but who, with his lovely wife, Kim, joined us later for our reunion dinner):

You'd have been proud of the Knights (formerly, as you'll recall, the "World Famous Menlo fighting Acorns")! The team performed far better than we predecessors from 1964 (who accumulated a 4W/3L record during our our final season) by trouncing Woodside High School 51-6! 'Gotta be honest here in noting that by the end of the 3rd quarter, some of us were wishing the Referee could call the game to STOP the annihilation (and allow us to move on to our reunion dinner)!

Speaking of the Reunion Dinner, we all enjoyed a pleasant repast at Pezzella's Villa Napoli in Sunnyvale (at the recommendation of Bruce Benton's cousin, Ann Sullivan).

We were thrilled to arrive and find Keoki and Kim Raymond there (although Keoki had told me he and Kim would be joining us, we apparently "missed" them during the Homecoming Game)!

Both Kim and Connie were MOST pleasant additions to our dinner party!  Kim took additional photos during our dinner - I'll add them to another post when I receive them.

My final photo for this post?  Our pal, John Zinke, looking VERY content after his meal!!

After dinner, since a few of us, by "tradition," were staying at Dinah's Garden Hotel, we moved on to their Poolside Restaurant for a "night cap" before retiring from our pleasant evening!

Finally, on Saturday morning, most of us re-united at Dinah's Poolside Restaurant for breakfast and a final get-together before well headed in different directions for sightseeing, family visiting, and other diversions!

'Sorry we missed a bunch of you! But, for us who attended, it was a nice, small, pleasant time together!!

I'll let you all know when/if I get more photos for posting, AND, I'll be back in touch when we start making plans for our 55th Reunion in 2019.

In the meantime, please stay well, and stay in touch!

Cheers, Bill

This note and photo were recently received from Tom Love following a May 2016 "road trip" he and Mike Kenner made up to Washington and Oregon.

"Hi Bill,

I recently took a trip along with Mike Kenner to the Great Northwest to visit Bill Kendall. We had a great time with Bill & his wife Pat at their ranch along the WA/ID border. On the way back we stopped in to Yachats, OR to reconnect with Jim Adler. Very interesting guy who is an artist and an environmentalist. Take a look at the YouTube video to see and hear Jim: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBsqtK4oraU.

Tom"

Jim:  Come on and join us at our next reunion - we'd all love to catch up with you!!
